Storm Thorgerson, a legendary graphic designer, has sadly passed away the 18th April 2013. Storm Thorgerson was often called the best album designer in the world.

Thorgerson’s most famous designs are those for Pink Floyd. His design for the cover of Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon has been called one of the best album covers of all time. He often places objects out of their normal expected contexts, with vast spaces around them, to give them an surreal appearance while highlighting their beauty.

He used to said:
“I like photography because it is a reality medium, unlike drawing which is unreal. I like to mess with reality…to bend reality. Some of my works beg the question of is it real or not?”

Others projects also very well known are the work for rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Genesis, Europe, Catherine Wheel, Bruce Dickinson, etc. Find here below some of his works we like the most:

I loved the poster that The Bronx agency (Paris) created for the Cannes Festival 2013.The photograph that was taken during the shooting “A New Kind of Love, by Melville Shavelson (1963)” was isolated, remastered and redesigned. The perfect visual synergy between 1963 and 2013.

“To grace the poster for its 66th edition, the Festival de Cannes has chosen a couple who embody the spirit of cinema like no other: Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, photographed during the shooting of the aptly named A New Kind of Love, by Melville Shavelson (1963).

For the Festival it is a chance both to pay tribute to the memory of Paul Newman, who passed away in 2008, and to mark its undying admiration for Joanne Woodward, his wife and most favoured co-star.
They were honoured at the Festival de Cannes in 1958 – the year of their marriage – with the selection In Competition of Martin Ritt’s The Long Hot Summer, the first film in which they appeared together. The links between their story and that of the Festival continued with a series of films directed by Newman, who cast Woodward in unforgettable roles in The Effect of the Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (Competition – 1973) and The Glass Menagerie (Competition – 1987).”

Our colleagues of ANV PRODUCTION were yesterday recording the interesting TEDx Lausanne event.

What is TEDx?

TED created a program called TEDx, consisting of local, independently organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. “In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading”, live speakers and a few pre-recorded and live TEDTalk videos are combined to arouse deep discussion. Hundreds of TEDx events have already been organized around the world.

What was this TEDx about?

This TEDx was about Positive Disruption, interesting subject developed by 3 lives speakers plus others speakers from Seattle. All of them inspire us with their ideas for change.

Positive disruption can be a vital catalyst for change, allowing us to explore new and exciting possibilities. At this year’s TEDxLausanneChange, our dynamic presenters challenge existing ideas to give way to new ones. The event includes three live presenters that inspire us with ideas for change that are being developed here in Lausanne and around Europe. Topics range from social entrepreneurship and new technologies to health and community development. We invite our participants to draw inspiration from these talks and ignite their own dreams of making a positive impact on the world.”

Inspiring talks, we will think how ANV can make a positive impact on the world…. And you , how you will change the world?

Christopher Locke creates hand-made amplifiers called “Analog Tele-Phonographers” purposed to volume up your iPhone or iPad and at the same time to bring out the old times vibe. He designs custom-built loudspeakers from recycled trumpets, trombones, french horns and other brass instruments.

The design concept of an old-fashioned phonograph definitely adds some extra charm. What’s good about these unusual amplifiers is that they require no external power source.

You can check out how they work in the video.

The korean artist Choi Jeongmoon based today in Berlin has been working with black light for several years now. Wool threads trace the contours of rooms and furnishing, at times in a decisive, geometric manner, at other times in the form of animated handwriting. UV rays split the light reflected from thread drawings on dim wall surfaces, which retreat into the darkness. The grid-like mesh of threads criss-crosses through the room, creating a labyrinth or vaulted dome shapes, transforming the space and relationships within the space in a magical, poetic way. With confident imagination, elegance and incredible beauty, a balance is created between the construct of traced boundaries and a boundless continuum.
